Important Department Information

Fee Reduction Program
The LSSE Department and Commission recognize that the charging of fees for programs may place such an economic hardship on some individuals that they are unable to participate. For that reason LSSE is pleased to announce that all programs are available at a reduced rate to qualified Amherst residents (certain restrictions will apply). Contact the LSSE office to apply. Please allow 1-2 weeks for processing.

Non-Resident Fee
Some LSSE administrative and program costs are covered by Amherst tax dollars. Therefore, those who are not residents of Amherst will be assessed a $10 surcharge for each program registered.

Refunds

1. Refunds will be made if programs are cancelled, filled or if Department changes in offerings prohibit your attendance.
2. Refunds will be made if your request is received in writing at least 5 business days in advance of the activity starting and will be subject to a $10 processing fee. Refunds are not made after a program begins except under extreme circumstances.
Consideration will be given to these written request on a case by case basis.
3. Ticketed or General Admission events are NOT refundable. You may exchange tickets up until the show date and time on your ticket. There are no exchanges after a performance begins.

Insurance/Liability
By nature, many leisure activities have inherent risks associated with participation. The Amherst Leisure Services and Supplemental Education Department is not able to provide accident or hospitalization insurance for program participants. Therefore, all participants are strongly advised to have adequate personal coverage. Participation in all department programs shall be at the registrant's own risk.

No Smoking Policy
Please be aware that smoking is prohibited at school buildings and on school grounds at all times. Smoking is also prohibited in town buildings.

Photographs of Activities
Occasionally, LSSE will have a photographer take pictures of our programs for use in our "Leisure Times" program guide. If you or any member of your family are a participant of a program and DO NOT wish to have your picture used by LSSE, please contact our office at 259-3065 before the end of the program.

Special Thanks
A special thanks to the Amherst-Pelham Regional School District and to the excellent school department staff for their cooperation, which allows us to provide numerous activities in school facilities. We would also like to thank the staff at the Bangs Community Center and the Munson Library Trustees for their assistance and cooperation.

Inclusion & Accessibility
Are You Exploring Your Options Fully Through the LSSE Programs?

LSSE is committed to making programs and classes accessible and inclusive to people of diverse physical and cognitive abilities, of all ages.

I. Alternative Learning Supports, Anyone?
These are supports that will greatly enhance the probability of an enjoyable and successful experience. Sign Language Interpreters, One on One Aids, consultation with the instructor, seating or lighting adjustments and recorded instruction on audio tape are only a few of the methods we have used to support people coming to our programs. Please fill out the form available at registration or click here for our online form
.

II. One-On-One Support Needed?
Invite a companion at no extra cost or enroll in the Open Arms Project, which allows participants, with a companion, disabled and non-disabled, to participate equally by each bearing 50% of the course fee. (See the Open Arms description page.)

III. What are "Reasonable Requests?"
Requests for special needs accommodations that are made in writing, email, or faxed three weeks prior to the start of a program allow us time to find the supports that you may need. For example, a sign language interpreter may take several weeks to set up.

Let Us Know How We Can Support You!
It will help us help you if you disclose as much information as possible about the specifics of any "special need" you or your child may have when registering for a class or program. Please answer the question on our registration forms: "Do you or your child require additional resources in order to best access our programs?" If yes, please complete the "Alternative Learning Supports Form" which is available at the LSSE office. By filling out this form, you help us know the specifics of the disability or special need, in advance. We then determine with you the best way to create a positive and successful program for all.
